How does skin rejuvenation work?

Effective skin rejuvenation can be achieved by targeting three main causes of ageing, by:

  • Restoring the quality and appearance of epidermis by targeting superficial pigmentary issues.
  • Restoring skin elasticity by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin in the dermis.
  • Improving the inner skin hydration by restoring hayluronic acid levels.

The first two rejuvenation techniques are photorejuvenation based, with the third one requiring application of special dermatological cosmetic products.

The process of photorejuvenation utilises the principle of Selective Photothermolysis. This is the process of emitting a laser beam at specific wavelength onto the skin. The light penetrates the epidermis and reaches the dermis (the inner layer) where it is transformed into the energy of heat. The heat changes the shape of molecule called collagen causing it to contract and thicken, producing an immediate effect of skin tightening. Additionally, lasers of NdYAG type are capable of triggering an internal reaction which results in generation of new collagen and elastin molecules directly in the dermis layer, which creates more persistent effect of reduced appearance of wrinkles, improved skin tone, minimised pore size and decreased skin laxity. At PureMed Laser Clinic we utilise the gold standard Neodymium YAG laser at 1064 nm, which is well known for its leading skin rejuvenation capabilities.

Following the photorejuvenation therapy we recommend application of special dermatological cosmetic products, to help skin recover faster, stimulate generation of collagen and restore hayluronic acid to improve skin hydration.
With skin rejuvenation being a gradual process, to obtain the best result we suggest development of a tailored rejuvenation treatment plan. This will assure the effectiveness of each and every procedure and will make your skin look ages younger whilst staying healthy for the years to come.
